Critikid: A Fantastic Resource You Need to Know About

*

Not long ago I began seeing posts from Critikid in my social media feed. The posts covered topics on media literacy, cognitive biases, logical fallacies, and how to teach these complicated topics to kids. I was so excited! We parents desperately need more of this. And soon I began seeing video shorts of Stephanie, the wonderful creator of Critikid, asking questions of cool people who promote critical thinking. People like science educator Melanie from Thinking is Power, psychologist Dr. Jonathan Stea, and author John Guy

When I started seeing these posts I wondered why I hadn’t seen them before. After all, this is exactly the thing I’m focused on in my own work. That’s when I discovered that Critikid is new, and Stephanie started it on her own with a shoestring budget. She posted the origin story of Critikid explaining that…

I noticed an absence of online critical thinking resources for children, so I used my savings to start Critikid.

Since I was bootstrapping, I had to keep things pretty cheap. Fallacy Detectors Part 1 and the website cost $4500. I was able to keep the cost so low because my husband is a web developer.

From this humble beginning Stephanie has created something truly special, a site parents can trust to teach their children the basics of critical thinking. There are worksheets, interactive courses, and wonderful videos that are fun for kids and easy to use. My son and I completed the Statistical Odessey course and we loved it!

That’s why I was so excited when Stephanie listed my books as a resource for parents on her website. And when she reached out to me to collaborate on a course for kids on Emotional Intelligence I jumped at the chance. Look for the course to come out soon.

I can’t recommend this site enough. If you, like me, believe that we need to teach children critical thinking skills to prepare them for the misinformation age, the head over to Critikid and support the site by grabbing one of the great courses there.

  1. Her content is great. I don’t have kids but still follow and am learning so much from her.

  2. Dr. Dad: I agree that there is a lot of merit to the CriticKid website.
